Water Research Showcase event on campus – a great success!

We recently held a Water Research Showcase on campus, on 24th February 2026, in the School of Management Building (10 East), Level 0 foyer and room 0.08. This time, in addition to the posters and equipment on display, visitors were also invited to listen to some short talks by CWBE Co-Directors and Wessex Water staff.

The showcase was a great opportunity for people to see examples of cutting-edge research tackling environmental and public health challenges. On show were advances in wastewater-based epidemiology, sensor technologies, data-driven health surveillance, catchment management, Smart rivers and more.

The short talks given were:

CWBE – Building One Health platform for environment and public health protection
Chemical fingerprinting approaches to assess environmental and public health Barbara Kasprzyk-Hordern, CWBE Director
Pathogen Surveillance Ed Feil, CWBE Co-Director
Sensing and IoW for One Health platform Pedro Estrela, CWBE Co-Director
Social prescribing and pharma Julie Barnett, CWBE Co-Director
Wessex Water
Micro-plastics and the water cycle – threats and management opportunities Megan Robertson, Senior Environmental Scientist
From drought to flood and back to drought: how could we better use rainwater? Matt Wheeldon, Director of Infrastructure Development
