Dr Samia Habib
Department of Life Sciences
Dr Samia Habib is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Bath, specializing in microbial genomics and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) research. She earned her PhD in Biology from the University of Bath in 2023, focusing on the molecular epidemiology of AMR, particularly plasmid detection and gene transfer in Klebsiella pneumoniae and other Enterobacteriaceae species across human, animal, and environmental sources.
Her research encompasses wastewater surveillance for bacterial pathogens and AMR genes, contributing to a deeper understanding of resistance dissemination in the environment. With a strong background in microbiology, genetics, and biotechnology, Dr Habib has led projects investigating the genetic diversity, resistance profiles, and plasmid content of Klebsiella species from clinical and environmental sources in Pakistan, as well as wastewater and river systems in the UK. Her work aims to inform public health strategies and improve our understanding of AMR dynamics across different ecosystems.
At CWBE, Dr Habib is developing advanced methods to monitor pathogens in wastewater and other environmental water sources, supporting efforts to mitigate the spread of infectious diseases. Outside of research, she enjoys traveling and fashion design.
