Keegan holds an MSc in Medical Microbiology from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and has built experience across infectious disease research, antimicrobial resistance, public health surveillance, and diagnostic microbiology. His previous roles include positions at the University of Oxford’s Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in South Africa.

 

His current research interests lie at the intersection of engineering, diagnostic microbiology, public health, and environmental surveillance, with a particular focus on translating scientific innovation into tangible societal benefits. Keegan is especially motivated by the development of accessible, rapid, and low-cost technologies for low- and middle-income countries, where advances in disease surveillance and public health technologies can have the greatest impact.

 

Outside of work Keegan is passionate about sports, particularly rugby, cricket, and football.
