Dr Sumrati Gurtoo
Department of Chemistry
Sumrati Gurtoo is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre of Excellence in Water-Based Early Warning Systems for Health Protection (CWBE), University of Bath. Her research focuses on the application of high-resolution, mass spectrometry–based omics approaches to support wastewater-based epidemiology and the development of early-warning systems for population health surveillance.
She specialises in proteomics, metabolomics, and biomarker discovery, with a strong translational background in identifying disease-associated molecular signatures from complex biological matrices. Her expertise in clinical multi-omics and biomarker validation provides a foundation for adapting omics-based methodologies to wastewater and environmental matrices for public health monitoring.
Her research has led to the development of advanced capabilities in liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry, particularly Orbitrap-based platforms. She is experienced in both targeted and untargeted analytical workflows, including non-target and suspect screening strategies to detect known and emerging health indicators in complex samples.
At CWBE, Sumrati Gurtoo contributes to interdisciplinary research integrating analytical chemistry, epidemiology, and public health. She has extensive experience in collaborative project delivery, data analysis, study design, ethics and governance processes, and scientific communication, supporting the translation of omics data into actionable wastewater-based health surveillance tools.
