Dr Mahmoud Altahan
Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering
Dr. Mahmoud Altahan is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Bath whose work focuses on advancing water quality monitoring technologies.
His role involves the development and validation of rapid, low-cost diagnostic platforms for detecting biomarkers and pathogens in water. His efforts will focus on translating laboratory-based analytical methods into filed-ready, portable instrumentation for quasi-continuous and near-point-of-use application.
During his Ph.D. at GEOMAR Helmholtz Center – Christian Albrecht University in Kiel, Germany, Dr. Altahan designed and validated sensors for in-situ and offshore detection of key nutrients in natural water. Post Ph.D., his research has expanded to include the development of miniaturized sensing systems, automated sample preparation modules, and impedimetric/voltametric platforms for monitoring various target in water/wastewater.
Dr. Altahan brings a multidisciplinary skill set that spans analytical chemistry, sensor engineering, and environmental diagnostics. His technical expertise is further supported by proficiency in Python-based data processing, instrument automation, and GIS-integrated environmental monitoring.
