Dr Emma Vaughan

Department of Chemistry

Dr. Emma Vaughan (she/her) is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Bath, currently working on the UK water industry CIP4 project on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This project aims to provide data on the prevalence and drivers of AMR in wastewater, biosolids, and the receiving environment.

Dr. Vaughan earned her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bath in 2025, focusing on the chemical fate of emerging contaminants in constructed wetlands. This research combined mass spectrometry methods with ecotoxicological assays to assess both chemical behaviour and the ecotoxicity of complex mixtures within a full scale constructed wetland.

Her academic background is in environmental chemistry, and her research interests include contaminant behaviour, water treatment, and the application of a range of monitoring and analytical techniques to assess chemical risks to the freshwater environment. Outside of research she enjoys running, hiking and wild swimming.
