Dr Andrea Estévez Danta

Department of Chemistry

Dr. Andrea Estévez-Danta is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Bath University. She is currently working on developing omics based diagnostic tools to measure indicators of disease via urban water profiling in the Centre of Excellence in Water Based Early Warning Systems for Health Protection (CWBE).

She specialises in wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE), human biomonitoring and in-vitro human metabolism studies. All three methodologies have been used to develop analytical methodologies to estimate human exposure to two major families of compounds: drugs of abuse (both legal and illegal) and polymeric leachates (mainly derived from plastics and rubber).

Her research has led her to acquire high capabilities in the use of liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry at both high (QTOF) and low (QqQ) resolution. These methodologies have allowed to quantify target chemicals as well as using suspect or non-target screening workflows to identify unknown compounds in the selected matrices.

Dr. Andrea Estévez-Danta has been an active contributor during her work at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) in two national and one international network: the Spanish Network of Wastewater-based epidemiology (ESAR-Net), the Network for Research in Primary Care in Addictions (RIAPAd), and the SCORE group. For the latter, Dr. Andrea Estévez-Danta has participated as an organising member of the European interlaboratory exercise during the years 2024 and 2025.
